1) WHAT IS CBD?
CBD (cannabidiol) is just one of over a hundred “phytocannabinoids,” that are unique to cannabis and make up the plant’s healing properties. It’s usually the second-most abundant cannabinoid, behind THC. Unlike THC, CBD does not make you feel “stoned” or intoxicated because CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body.
2) DOES CBD COME FROM CANNABIS OR HEMP? AND WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO?
The cannabis that most people know of and hemp are actually two different varieties of cannabis that come from the same species of plant (Cannabis sativa L). CBD is found abundantly in both. The hemp plant is a different variety of cannabis that contains higher quantities of CBD throughout and is legal in the US as long as there is below 0.3% THC content. Most all CBD-based products come from the industrial, agricultural, or phytocannabinoid rich hemp plants.
3) WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CBD AND THC?
THC affects the brain by binding to naturally-occurring CB-1 receptors in the central nervous system and creates a “high” feeling but has numerous medical benefits. CBD is a differently-shaped molecule that binds more directly to CB-2 receptors in cell and body tissues outside the central nervous system. CBD doesn’t create any euphoric effect which is great for people who don’t want a “high” but still want to benefit from cannabis.
4) WILL CBD GET ME HIGH?
Unlike THC, CBD does not make you feel “stoned” or intoxicated because CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body. CBD can actually lessen the psychoactive effects of THC making it great for people that want the health benefits of cannabis without the high.
5) HOW DO I TAKE CBD?
Most CBD products are taken orally via tinctures that are put under the tongue and held for 60 seconds before swallowing to absorb fully. Topical creams and ointments are also effective, as is smoking or vaporizing CBD. Learn more about how to take CBD.
8) HOW DOES CBD WORK?
CBD functions by binding to cannabinoid receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system. These receptors are found in virtually every cell and tissue type in the human body making CBD an alternative tool for an endless array uses.
9) IS CBD LEGAL?
The 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law on Dec 20, 2018, making hemp and hemp-derived products federally legal in the US. All products sold at The Weed Spot are derived from hemp and always below 0.3% THC.
10) IS CBD NATURAL?
Yes, CBD is a 100% naturally-occurring chemical compound that comes directly from the cannabis plant.
11) DO ALL MARIJUANA STRAINS HAVE CBD?
Every cannabis plant (whether it gets you high or not) will have CBD in it naturally. Some variations naturally have more than others. It is useful to have the lab results for your product to check CBD concentration.
12) HOW IS CBD EXTRACTED FROM THE CANNABIS PLANT?
- CO2 extraction. The supercritical (or subcritical) CO2 method uses carbon dioxide under high pressure and extremely low temperatures to isolate, preserve, and maintain the purity of the medicinal oil
- Ethanol. High-grade grain alcohol can be used to create high-quality cannabis oil appropriate for vape pen cartridges and other products.
- Nanotechnology. Nanotechnology allows compounds like CBD to be safely broken down into smaller particles that provide higher bioavailability and therapeutic effects.
- Lipid Extraction. A lipid extraction uses fats, or “lipids”, to absorb and encapsulate compounds produced by hemp plants.
13) ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS OF USING CBD? IS IT SAFE?
Most research has concluded that CBD is perfectly safe with no known side effects, though some users have reported drowsiness, lightheadedness, low blood pressure, and dry mouth.
14) CAN I COOK WITH CBD?
Absolutely! CBD infused oils are a fantastic ingredient to cook with and we have awesome options especially FOR THE KITCHEN.
15) ARE THERE STUDIES ON CBD?
Thousands of scientific studies have been carried out specifically on CBD. Project CBD is a non-profit organization strictly dedicated to documenting the research progress on this incredible compound. Check out their website for a huge bank of CBD knowledge.
16) WHAT ABOUT CBD TOPICALS… DO THEY WORK?
CBD topicals have proven effective for a number of circumstances but do not always absorb into the bloodstream. Many individuals swear by them for arthritis, muscle strain, soreness, and other injuries or skin ailments.
17) WILL CBD SHOW UP ON A DRUG TEST?
A high-quality CBD product with minimal THC is incredibly unlikely to show up on a drug test. However, some CBD products may contain more traces of THC, in which case it is possible for a screening to pick up on the drug. (Research has shown that people who consume 6 mg of THC per day have a 25% chance of failing a drug test. This translates to about 2,000 mg per day of CBD oil with a THC content of 0.3% or less).
19) HOW DO I KNOW IT’S SAFE TO PURCHASE CBD?
To ensure the legality of buying CBD products online, you need to make sure the company you’re buying from is reputable and that the product was made from industrial hemp with less than 0.3% THC content. The good news is that here at The Weed Spot we’ve already hand selected our brands and deemed them safe for our customers and families. While transporting marijuana across state lines (from legal to non-legal states) is against the law, transporting hemp and hemp-based products is safe. Remember, millions of people all over the US (and the globe) are using CBD products every day. International transport is dependant on the countries you are travelling between.
